Jones Wins Food City 300 Pole

Rain delayed the start of qualifying for the Food City 300 at Bristol Motor Speedway. However once the clock began for the first round, the session ran off without a hitch.

No. 20 Reser’s Main Street Bistro Toyota driver Erik Jones led round one with a lap time and speed of 15.037 seconds, 127.605 MPH with his teammate Kyle Busch finishing not too far behind with 15.080 seconds, 127.241 MPH in the No. 18 Tunity Toyota. Kyle Larson finished third with a time of 15.097 seconds, 127.098 MPH in the No. 42 ENEOS Chevrolet.
Busch topped round two with a time of 15.090 seconds, 127.157 MPH. Larson moved up to second with a lap of 15.147 seconds, 126.679 MPH. JR Motorsports driver Justin Allgaier took the third hole in the No. 7 BRANDT Chevrolet with a time and speed of 15.212 seconds, 126.088 MPH.

Joe Gibbs Racing dominated the final round. Jones nabbed his seventh pole this season and his 10th in 48 XFINITY Series starts. A lap and speed of 15.002 seconds, 127.903 MPH, also a new qualifying record, got the job done for the Bristol spring race winner.

Busch will also start on the front row with an effort of 15.041 seconds, 127.571 MPH. The reigning Sprint Cup Series champion recorded his 13th top-10 start of the 2016 XFINITY Series tour. Earning his fourth top-10 start this season, Daniel Suarez will start third. The No. 19 ARRIS Toyota driver recorded a time of 15.173 seconds, 126.461 MPH.

Grey Gaulding will be making his first XFINITY Series start. Needing to qualify on time, the driver of the No. 60 Krispy Kreme Ford put down a first-round lap of 15.566 seconds, which advanced him to round two. The 18 year old went on to record a 15.440-second lap in the second round and will start 21st.
