Gdovic Returns to XFINITY Series at Bristol Motor Speedway

Reigning Lamborghini Gallardo World Champion, Brandon Gdovic, will return to the seat of the No. 46 Chevrolet Camaro for the Food City 300 at Bristol Motor Speedway on Friday, August 19th, 2016. Gdovic, who left with a class win earlier this month at Road American in the ProAm division of the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Series, will trade his sports car in for a stock car next weekend in hopes of besting his last finish at Thunder Valley.

24-year-old Gdovic has had a busy and exciting first half of 2016. He kicked off the racing season by competing in North America’s most prestigious road-course race, the Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona. He has since traveling around the country with the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo Series and even hopped the pond to Spain for the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series. But the Virginia native’s roots as steeped in stock car racing and he is looking forward to returning to his favorite circle track.

Gdovic hopes to consolidate his talent into a solid and driven focus on the NASCAR XFINITY Series, not only in this race, but for the full 2017 season. Precision Performance Motorsports (PPM) recently announced plans to field Gdovic in the No. 46 Chevrolet Camaro full time next season. The team is busy preparing their fleet of XFINTY Series cars for this next venture. The Food City 300 will serve as another exhibition to the XFINITY Series field of what PPM is capable of with Gdovic behind the wheel.

“I am looking forward to heading back to Bristol in the XFINITY Series car again this year,” said Gdovic. “We had a pretty decent run earlier this year and hope to be even better this time. It’ll be interesting to see what the track is like when we get there because they made some changes to the bottom groove to make it faster. It could be a pretty big difference and may totally change the racing style there. I can’t wait to see!”

Veteran crew chief Mark Setzer will lead the XFINITY Series effort at Bristol Motor Speedway and throughout the 2017 season. Setzer has served as Gdovic’s crew chief for the past two seasons.

“After a strong showing by the PPM team at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, am super excited about returning to Bristol with Brandon,” said Setzer. “This will be the first time that Brandon has headed back to an XFINITY Series track for a second showing, so we are looking to build upon the solid finish we had here earlier this season. We hope to unload fast and continue to build speed into the car for this weekend’s race.”

Gdovic graduated to the NASCAR XFINITY Series in 2015, posting a career-best finish of 13th at Watkins Glen International in his first race with Precision Performance Motorsports. He spent the season competing in multiple XFINITY Series races while simultaneously taking on the new challenge of sports car racing. The Virginia native joined Mitchum Motorsports in 2015 to pilot their Lamborghini Gallardo in the Super Trofeo Series. In 13 starts, Gdovic won top amateur honors 10 times, securing the North American Amateur Championship and the Gallardo World Championship at the World Finals event at Sebring International Raceway.
