Garrett Smithley scored a 24th-place finish Saturday in his debut race at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course.
Smithley started 36th in the Mid-Ohio Challenge and pushed his JD Motorsports with Gary Keller Chevrolet into mid-pack early.
The finish kept Smithley 17th in Xfinity Series driver points.
Adding to the challenge of the afternoon for Smithley was the fact that on-and-off rain sent drivers to the pits for wet-weather tires.
“Not many race days like today, thank goodness,” Smithley said. “It certainly was a challenge for me to learn a new track while dealing with the weather, but we had a pretty good day, all in all.”
