Garrett Smithley came “home” to Atlanta Motor Speedway Saturday and scored a 24th-place finish in the Heads Up Georgia 250 Xfinity Series race.
A native of nearby Peachtree City, Ga., Smithley qualified the Instalco Chevrolet 26th and raced as high as 21st in the first race of his rookie season.
“I guess it was a good building-block kind of day,” Smithley said. “We got in a lot of laps. We were looking for a better finish, but we can grow from here.”
Smithley is 24th in series driver points.
