Aschenbach debuts at Road America

Lawson Aschenbach will put his road-course experience in play Saturday when he makes his Xfinity Series debut in the JD Motorsports with Gary Keller No. 0 Chevrolet at Road America.

Aschenbach, 31, will drive in NASCAR’s No. 2 series for the first time in the Road America 180 over the demanding four-mile, 14-turn course.

A graduate of Vanderbilt University with a double major in Engineering Science and Mathematics, Aschenbach currently races in the Tudor United Sportscar Championship, the Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge and the Pirelli World Challenge Series.

After winning numerous titles in go-kart racing, Aschenbach moved into open-wheel racing at the age of 16 and won championships in some of the most prestigious series in North America. In 2005, the Maryland driver finished on the podium in his first professional sports car race and won the SPEED World Challenge GT Series the following season in his rookie year.

Among Aschenbach’s titles: 2014 Pirelli World Challenge GTS champion, 2014 Lamborghini Super Trofeo world champion, 2013 Pirelli World Challenge GTS champion, 2011 Pirelli World Challenge Touring Car champion, 2010 Continental Tire Sports Car Series Street Turner champion, 2006 Pirelli World Challenge GT champion.

“We are very excited to have a driver of Lawson’s caliber drive for us this week,” said team owner Johnny Davis. “Road America is a tough track, but we know with his vast amount of experience that he’ll adapt to the track with these cars quickly. It’s going to be a big weekend for us.”
