Ross Chastain qualified 21st and ran with the lead group much of the night, finishing 17th in Friday night’s Food City 300 Xfinity Series race at Bristol Motor Speedway.
Chastain finished on the lead lap as the race was extended to 302 laps because of a late caution.
The finish marked the fourth time this season Chastain, driving the Flex Shot Chevrolet, has recorded a 17th-place run.
“We had a strong car all night and were able to stay up in the same territory with the leaders,” Chastain said. “Bristol is always something of a crapshoot, so we’re lucky to avoid the accidents and bring it home in one piece with a good finish. All around, a good night.”
Chastain protected his 14th-place standing in Xfinity driver points.
