Seven-Year-Old Dominic Clarke to Ride with Bubba Wallace in Mid-Ohio

A special guest will ride along with Roush Fenway Racing’s Bubba Wallace and the No. 6 team in this weekend’s Nationwide Children’s Hospital 200 at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course.  Seven-year-old Dominic Clarke’s face appears on the quarter panel of the No. 6 Ford EcoBoost Mustang as part of the Nationwide Children’s Hospital Patient Champion program.

On July 30, 2013, then five-year-old Clarke was diagnosed with Pre-B Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia.  He has been receiving chemotherapy since his diagnosis, and has had numerous surgeries and spinal taps as well.  Clarke will remain in active treatment until at least July of 2016.

Today, Clarke is seven years old and will be entering second grade at Tarhe Elementary in Lancaster, Ohio in the fall.  While he may still have over a year of active chemotherapy ahead of him, he doesn’t let it get him down.  He enjoys video games and Legos, and would like to be a Lego designer or a video game creator when he grows up.

“I’m excited to participate in this program that the Nationwide Children’s Hospital and Mid-Ohio put on,” said Wallace.  “I’m hoping Dominic is looking forward to coming to the track this weekend.  I know myself and the whole team are pumped to have him here, and hope we can show him a good time.”

Saturday’s NASCAR XFINITY Series race at Mid-Ohio marks Wallace’s first start at the 2.4-mile road course.  Even though it is Wallace’s first start, Clarke’s expectations are still high.

“The coolest part about having my face on a race car is that people are going to see how cool I look when Bubba goes as fast as lightening,” said Clarke.

When asked who would win, Clarke had a simple reply.

“Bubba Wallace, of course.”

Several other NASCAR XFINITY Series teams are also participating in the Patient Champion program, including fellow Roush Fenway teammates Ryan Reed, Chris Buescher and Elliott Sadler.
