Lilly Diabetes Kicks off Cup Debut with Crew Wellness Challenge

Ryan Reed and Greg Biffle will both race the No. 16 Lilly Diabetes Ford in their respective NASCAR series races at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, marking Lilly’s first ever Sprint Cup Series start. In an effort to highlight how important it is for everyone to take better control of their health, including those living with diabetes, the crews of both Roush Fenway Racing drivers will compete in a wellness challenge during the week leading into the Brickyard. Both No. 16 crews will go head-to-head to see who has the most active minutes, takes the most steps and burns the most calories during the week.

“Indianapolis is one of the most special and iconic tracks that we race at,” said Biffle.  “I’m excited to have Lilly Diabetes on our Ford for this weekend.  Diabetes is something that affects so many people and spreading the wellness message is important for all ages.  Ryan might be a few years younger than I am, but I bet I take more steps.  We’ll find out for sure soon.”

“Indy is such an important race for the entire sport and especially for Lilly Diabetes since it’s in their backyard,” said Reed. “It will be really cool to see Greg running the Lilly colors in the Cup race on Sunday and I hope we can both bring home great finishes for them. While we are both super competitive on the track, I have a feeling we will be just as competitive as we fight for bragging rights in the Pit Crew Challenge.”

The RFR Pit Crew Challenge kicks off on Monday, July 20 with Reed’s rear tire carrier versus Biffle’s rear carrier.  The rest of the week will go as follows: Tuesday – rear tire changers, Wednesday – front tire carriers, Thursday – front tire changers and then the crew chiefs will take the challenge to the track on Friday.  Ryan will keep track of his steps on Saturday prior to the NASCAR XFINITY

Series Lilly Diabetes 250 and Biffle will count his steps on Sunday.  Total steps, active minutes and calories burned will be tallied and the winning team will be announced on Monday, July 27.
