Setterington, Cassill Team At JD Motorsports

It was practically preordained that Wayne Setterington Jr. would be a racer.

His parents owned a short track – Owosso Speedway – in Michigan. Several of his uncles were drivers or car owners.

“It’s all I’ve ever known, from when I was an infant in arms,” Setterington said. “Both sides of my family were involved in racing, so I’ve been fortunate to have a bloodline of racers.”

Now 34, Setterington is putting his years of racing knowledge to work as the new crew chief for driver Landon Cassill and the JD Motorsports with Gary Keller Xfinity Series team.

He comes to the JDM team after working at a variety of other racing jobs, including for Sprint Cup champion Brad Keselowski’s team.

“Wayne brings a lot of experience and ability to this job,” team owner Johnny Davis said. “He’s proven himself already in getting everything organized, the cars prepared and the team ready to race. We’re looking forward to what he and Landon will be able to do the rest of the season.”

Setterington said there is much potential in his new team.

“Johnny probably should get an award for doing the most with very little,” he said. “He takes a lot of pride in what he has and what he does. He does a very, very good job of operating very efficiently but at an extremely high level of competition.”

Setterington said he enjoys every aspect of the crew chief role.

“I do enjoy calling the race and the fast action and intensity of that,” he said. “And I like the car prep, as far as building a new car or taking an older car and starting over with it, stripping it down to nothing and refining some of the stuff and making it better than it once was.”
