Wallace Finishes 19th at Atlanta

A drivetrain failure with three laps to go in Saturday’s Great Clips 300 at Atlanta Motor Speedway forced  Kenny Wallace to head to pit road and relinquish the 10th position after a solid performance throughout the night. Wallace earned his 21st top-20 finish of the 2011 NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) season after the No. 09 G-Oil Toyota Camry took a 19th place finish following 300 miles of racing under the lights.

During a “one-day show” in Hampton, GA, Wallace participated in two practice sessions Saturday morning before entering qualifying later in the day. Posting speeds fast-enough to earn the 16th and 19th positions, respectively, during practice, Wallace was able to pilot the No. 09 to a 20th place starting position.

Making their only stop in the “Peach State” of the 2011 season, Wallace took the green flag Saturday night in a newly built car at one of the fastest tracks on the circuit. Wallace was not on track long before expressing handling concerns with crew chief, Scott Zipadelli. Working to make adjustments over the first half of the event, Wallace remained around the 20th position. With 15 laps to go, Wallace was back on the lead lap and fighting for a top ten position.  He climbed steadily to 10th before the part failure and he was forced to pit, ending the night in 19th.

Wallace and RAB Racing remain optimistic about their upcoming races. Wallace holds steady at seventh in the NNS driver standings for the 17th consecutive week and Robby Benton continues to occupy 13th position in the NNS owner standings.
