In an effort to raise awareness for Childhood Cancer, NASCAR driver Jimmy Weller will partner with Joedance Film Festival for two key events over the next few weeks. Joedance Film Festival, a Charlotte, N.C.-based non-profit organization focused on raising awareness for rare pediatric cancers, will be the focal point of a childhood cancer fundraiser organized by Weller at Sharon Speedway on Saturday, September 20th. Then, the duo will again join forces for the NASCAR Nationwide Series race at Charlotte Motor Speedway, which Weller will compete in on Friday, October 10.
“I’m really excited to partner with Joedance Film Festival for a few more events this year,” commented Weller. ” I’ve had a lot of fun getting to know the Restaino family over the last few months, and after attending the Joedance Film Festival this past August, I’m really excited to find other ways to support their cause. The story of their son and his fight against Osteosarcoma was so touching, so it means a lot to me to have the opportunity to support them and their fight against rare pediatric cancers.”
After attending the Joedance Film Festival in early August, Weller began to look for different ways to support the non-profit organization’s initiatives. With Childhood Cancer Awareness month taking place in September, the NASCAR driver looked at different ways to help Joedance Film Festival extend their reach and spread their message. With opportunities to visit hospitals and organize a night focused on Childhood Cancer Awareness at Sharon Speedway during the month of September, Weller decided to then cap off the effort by racing with the Joedance Film Festival logos on his car in the NASCAR Nationwide Series race at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

With Childhood Cancer Awareness Month taking place in September, Weller will organize “Joedance Film Festival Night” at Sharon Speedway in Hartford, Ohio, on Saturday, September 20. The evening will look to shed light on childhood cancers, while raising awareness and financial support through the crowd at the Ohio dirt track. The night will feature a driver foot race, several ‘pick a prize’ raffles, a gold ribbon sale and a donation collection. All funds raised will benefit Joedance Film Festival.
On Friday, October 10, Jimmy Weller will compete in a Chevrolet Camaro for SS Green Light Racing at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Racing in his second NASCAR Nationwide Series race this season, Weller’s Camaro will feature the Joedance Film Festival logo on the lower rear quarter panels. With the race located in Charlotte, Joedance Film Festival looks for the partnership to raise awareness within their local community and increase their ability to provide financial support for research and clinical trials at the Levine Children’s Hospital.
The Joedance Film Festival was founded on July 6, 2010 in memory of Joe Restaino, a movie lover, who passed away after a four-year battle with Osteosarcoma (bone cancer) at the age of 20. Designed to showcase original film entries from Charlotte’s film industry producers, writers and directors, the Joedance Film Festival is held annually during the first weekend of August in the courtyard of the 10th Street Townhomes in Charlotte’s Fourth Ward District.
