Back for a Second Helping

A season sweep at Chicagoland Speedway for NAPA AUTO PARTS driver Chase Elliott? That could happen this Saturday when the NASCAR Nationwide Series returns to the 1.5-mile tri-oval in Joliet, Illinois, where Elliott won nearly two months ago.

It was on July 19 that the 18-year-old Elliott swept into the Windy City with an unforgettable performance, leading 85 laps en route to his third victory this year. The win also helped Elliott retake the points lead from teammate Regan Smith, and so far he has not relinquished it. For Elliott it was a monumental night, as the other two NASCAR touring series were on a bye week, giving the No. 9 NAPA Chevrolet center stage. Racing in front of the hardcore race fans of the Midwest, Elliott showcased his talents by motoring past Trevor Bayne with 25 laps to go and staying out front the rest of the way. He beat Bayne, Kyle Larson and Kasey Kahne to the checkered flag to earn the win.

Elliott returns to Chicagoland Speedway with the possibility of a championship in clear view ahead of him. With eight races to go, Elliott leads Smith by 19 points, as he gained three points at Bristol, two points at Atlanta, and four points last week at Richmond.

Elliott also leads Ty Dillon by 60 points in the Sunoco Rookie of the Year standings.
