Landon Cassill roared out from a 30th-place starting spot, finished on the lead lap and rolled home 16th in Saturday’s Lilly Diabetes 250 Nationwide Series race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
Cassill, driving the JD Motorsports with Gary Keller Chevrolet, raced as high as 10th at the world’s most famous speedway.
“It was a good day for us,” Cassill said. “This is a hard track to pass on and a difficult place to stay in the right groove all day. The car ran well. What we learned today will help us next time here.”
Cassill remained in 11th place in Nationwide driver points.
Rookie Ty Dillon won the race, scoring his first Nationwide victory. Chase Elliott is No. 1 in points.
