Jeffrey Earnhardt continues family run at Indy

Indianapolis Motor Speedway will forever carry the “Earnhardt” stamp.

Dale Earnhardt Sr. won the second Brickyard 400 in 1995 and famously announced that he was the first “man” to win the event. Young Jeff Gordon won the inaugural 400 the previous season.

Now Earnhardt’s grandson, Jeffrey Earnhardt, gets his turn at the world’s most famous speedway.

Earnhardt will drive the JD Motorsports with Gary Keller Chevrolet in Saturday’s Lilly Diabetes 250 Nationwide Series race.

“My granddad talked often about how special Indy was and how special it was to win there,” Jeffrey said. “It’s an honor to crank a race car on that track. The fact that he did so well there just makes it bigger for me.”

Earnhardt, still battling a shoulder injury, enters the race 18th in Nationwide points.
