Sam Hornish Jr. back in Seat of No. 54 Monster Energy Toyota at Chicago

Week 18 in the NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) and the No. 54 Monster Energy Camry will see Sam Hornish Jr. back in the seat to tackle his fourth of seven scheduled races in the Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR) winning Toyota. In addition to this week’s Chicagoland (Ill.) Speedway EnjoyIllinois.com 300 event, with the now four-time 2014 series-winning team, Hornish will compete for a second time at Iowa Speedway in Newton, the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington and Kentucky Speedway in Sparta.

With the team’s second-place finish last week at New Hampshire Motor Speedway in Loudon, the Monster Energy team and owner J.D. Gibbs maintain first place in the series’ Owner’s Championship points, leading by 33 now over Penske Racing. This week they look to extend that lead with the help of Hornish Jr., eager to earn his second victory of the season, earlier capturing the checkered flag with this No. 54 team at Iowa Speedway.

Just outside of the “windy city,” Hornish Jr. previously raced the mid-west facility in 2013 with former car owner Roger Penske where he started fourth, ran all laps in the top 15 and finished in third place, to then competitors Joey Logano and race winner Kyle Busch. This week he approaches Chicagoland Speedway with a new racing family, one that has offered him the opportunity already for pole and checkered-flag wins and three top-five finishes across two JGR teams. Hornish Jr. and crew chief Adam Stevens look to bring their No. 54 team to victory circle together again – what would be a new feat at this track for both veterans.
