Michael Annett Claims Mobil 1 Driver of the Race Award

Rusty Wallace Racing’s No. 62 Pilot Flying J team is on a roll, rallying yet another top-10 finish on New Hampshire Motor Speedway’s Magic Mile this weekend. Driver Michael Annett’s seventh place finish earned him the Mobil 1 Driver of the Race Award in Saturday’s New England 200. Finishing ninth, Annett’s teammate Steve Wallace also collected a top-10 for the two-car Rusty Wallace Racing team.

“We’re really excited for another top-10 finish for Pilot Flying J and Rusty Wallace Racing. That makes five top-10s in the last six races for the No. 62 team. We’re very pleased with the gains our team is making. Our goal is to contend weekly with the frontrunners, and we ran up there all day,” said an enthusiastic Annett.

The No. 62 Pilot Flying J team had a consistent top-10 run at New Hampshire Motor Speedway and was looking to score a top-five finish in a green, white, checkered ending to Saturday’s 200 mile showdown. Restarting fourth with just two laps to go, Annett was on his way to a top-five when he was unfortunately shuffled back to seventh heading to the white flag. Frustrated that a top-five was in sight, but optimistic about their top-10 effort, the No. 62 Pilot Flying J team claimed their fourth consecutive top-10 finish.

“We ran in the top-10 throughout the race. We’re disappointed that we couldn’t capitalize on a top-five finish, but I’m very proud of our team and the strides we have made in the last six weeks. It’s great momentum for our No. 62 Pilot Flying J team,” said Annett, “As a team, we’re continuing to focus on top-five finishes, and we’re working really hard to achieve these results each week. The team worked hard all day, and we put ourselves in position today when it counted, but got knocked out of the way there at the end. We’ll head to Nashville next week with a lot of energy and excitement.”

Ninth in the Nationwide Series championship point standings, Annett sits just five points behind his teammate. The pair’s seventh and ninth place finishes this weekend at New Hampshire powered the Rusty Wallace Racing organization to nine top-10 finishes in 2011.
