Tagliani wins NNS pole at Road America

Alex Tagliani posted the fastest time in the final round of qualifying to secure the pole for today’s NNS race.  Tagliani turned a lap of two minutes and 14.411 seconds in his No. 22 Discount Tire Ford to claim his second career pole in NNS.

His first one came at Montreal in August 2012.

The No. 22 team won all three road course races last year with A.J. Allmendinger at Road America and Mid-Ohio and Brad Keselowski at Watkins Glen.

This isn’t the first time Tagliani has driven a Penske car.  He wheeled the No. 12 Hot Wheels Dodge to a second-place finish at Montreal in August 2011.

Rookie Dylan Kwasniewski qualified second in the No. 42 Chevrolet for Turner Scott Motorsports.  He will run the car in three more races this season when Kyle Larson is off running the Sprint Cup Series race.

Points leader Regan Smith had the third fastest time with Sam Hornish Jr. and Brendan Gaughan rounding out the top five.

Brian Scott was sixth after having the quickest time in round one.  His Richard Childress Racing rookie teammate Ty Dillon was seventh, followed by Justin Marks, Chris Buescher and Andy Lally.

Lally put the deal together to run the No. 55 for Viva Motorsports at Road America last Sunday.  The two other drivers in the top 12 were Elliott Sadler and Chase Elliott.

Sadler squeaked into the top 12 toward the end of the first round and the rookie Elliott didn’t turn a lap of practice yesterday due to missing a shift and the No.9 team having to change engines.

The Gardner Denver 200 Fired Up by Johnsonville will have live coverage starting at 2:30 p.m. ET on ABC.
