Joe Gibbs Racing announces today that it has signed Drew Herring to drive at least two additional races this season in its NASCAR Nationwide Series program.
Herring will drive for Joe Gibbs Racing in the NASCAR Nationwide Series races in Nashville and ORP on July 23 and 30 respectively. Sport Clips Haircuts will sponsor both races with Herring driving the No. 18 Toyota in Nashville as that team continues its quest to capture a third-straight Nationwide Series Owner’s Championship. He will move over to the No. 20 Toyota for the race at ORP.
“Drew is exactly the type of young, talented driver we like to provide opportunities to in our Nationwide Series program,” said J.D. Gibbs, president of Joe Gibbs Racing. “He did an outstanding job for us in Iowa and we look forward to having him compete for us in Nashville and ORP. Hopefully with the right partner we can expand on the number of opportunities Drew will have with us this season and beyond.”
Herring, 24, has made five career starts now in the NASCAR Nationwide Series including an earlier start for JGR this season in Iowa in which he led 39 laps and battled amongst the leaders for much of the race before going on to finish 12th.. His four additional outings came last season.
“We had the opportunity to work with Drew earlier this season in Iowa and we are excited to sponsor these two additional races with him,” said Gordon Logan, CEO and Founder of Sport Clips. “He is a great representative of Sport Clips, the type of talented young driver we seek to partner with. We’re looking forward to seeing Drew up front in the Sport Clips Toyota at Nashville and ORP.”
Herring is a native of Benson, NC and is currently completing his degree in mechanical engineering at NC State University.
