Chris Buescher headed to Iowa Speedway this weekend for the first time in his NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) career, coming off of a runner-up finish at Talladega two weeks ago. The Roush Fenway Racing driver started 11th and battled with a tight-handling racecar but was able to pick up speed as the day progressed. After a quick pit stop on the second caution of the day, Buescher cracked the top-10 where he would remain until a pit road penalty set him back to 19th with about 100 laps remaining. Buescher wheeled his No.60 Ford EcoBoost Ford Mustang quickly back up the field, and would find himself in 13thwhen the checkered flag waved.
Buescher hoped that his four visits to Iowa Speedway in the ARCA Racing Series would help him pick up the intricacies of the track during his first attempt here in the NNS. After qualifying 11th, Buescher ran solidly inside the top-15 to start the day as his crew worked to correct a car that was slightly tight in the center.
When the yellow came out on lap 104, the No.60 team gained two spots on pit road, putting Buescher in ninth on the restart. Buescher was having a strong top-10 run until a loose tire on pit road during the third caution of the Get to Know Newton 250, resulted in a pit road penalty. Buescher was set back to the tail end of the longest line, which placed him in 19th.
The No.60 Ford EcoBoost Mustang got consistently better throughout the race, and was one of the fastest cars on the track. The car was good on the long-run and Buescher worked his way back into the top-10. After a late-race caution at lap 214 he was shuffled back a few spots and ended the day in 13th.
