Viva Motorsports Aaron’s 312 Post Race Report Talladega Superspeedway

The high banks and tight racing at Talladega Superspeedway equate to an opportunity for a strong run and a chance to pull of a victory.  Jamie Dick and the No. 55 Viva Auto Group team went into the weekend hoping to capitalize on that opportunity.  Throughout the first segment of the race, Dick kept his Chevy Camaro in the middle of the lead pack as he was biding his time and feeling out the pack.

After the first caution and a round of pit stops, Dick was still running mid pack when his spotter reported mild smoke out of the rear end of the Viva Auto Group machine.  Dick fell to the back of the pack and it was only a few more laps until the conditioned worsened and a failed inner axle seal allowed rear end grease to spill out of the housing.  After pulling into the garage, the Viva Motorsports team changed the rear end components and sent the racecar back out on the track.  Unfortunately, the change put the No. 55 machine 30 laps behind the leader.  Dick rode out the rest of the race and ended up with a 27th place finish.

“Its really a shame we had such a simple part failure ruin our day like that,” said Jamie Dick.  “We brought a fast superspeedway car here and if we could have stayed out there all race, I’m sure we could have been in contention for at least a top 10 finish at the end.  My team fought hard to make repairs as quick as they could so we could savage as many points as possible, but we should have never been in that situation.”
