Race Highlights:

  • Richard Childress Racing teammates finished third (Kevin Harvick), sixth (Austin Dillon) and 11th (Brian Scott).
  • Dillon is second in the Nationwide Series driver championship point standings, trailing leader Sam Hornish, Jr. by four points, while Scott is seventh in the standings, 73 points behind the leader.
  • The No. 3 Chevrolet team ranks fourth in the Nationwide Series owner championship point standings, with the No. 2 team ninth and the No. 33 team 10th.
  • According to NASCAR’s Post Race Loop Data Statistics, Harvick ranked third in Average Running Position (5.335) and earned the fourth-best Driver Rating (112.7).
  • Dillon was the third-Fastest Driver Early in a Run (146.123 mph) and ranked third in Green Flag Speed (143.869 mph).
  • Scott made 21 Quality Passes.
  • Combined, the RCR drivers posted the fastest laps for 20 circuits with Dillon (17), Harvick (2) and Scott (1).
  • Joey Logano earned his third Nationwide Series victory of 2013 and was followed to the finish line by Kyle Larson, Harvick, Brian Vickers and Elliott Sadler.
  • The next Nationwide Series race is the Kansas Lottery 300 at Kansas Speedway on Saturday, Oct. 5. The 29th race of the 2013 season is scheduled to be televised live on ESPN beginning at 3:30 p.m. Eastern Time and broadcast live on the Motor Racing Network and SiriusXM NASCAR Satellite Radio channel 90.

   

Brian Scott Rallies to an 11th-Place Finish at Dover International Speedway

  

Brian Scott and the No. 2 Shore Lodge team rallied to an 11th-place finish in the Dover 200 at Dover International Speedway after spinning in the early stages of the Saturday afternoon event. The 25-year-old Richard Childress Racing driver took the green flag from the 10th spot and immediately radioed to crew chief Phil Gould that the handling of his black and white Chevrolet was extremely loose and lacked rear grip. The loose handling condition proved even more challenging as Scott spun off turn two on lap 25, bringing out the afternoon’s first caution. Suffering no damage, he brought his Chevrolet Camaro to pit road for wholesale adjustments along with four fresh tires and fuel. Scott restarted in the 21st spot on lap 29. The field slowed once again for a caution period on lap 35. While many competitors visited pit road, Scott stayed out to place him inside the top-10 for the ensuing restart on lap 40. Through the course of the 200-lap affair, the No. 2 Shore Lodge team continued to adjust the handling of the RCR machine and Scott ultimately earned an 11th-place finish, despite becoming one of 35 drivers to fall one lap down to the race leader during a long green flag run in the later stages of the event.

“We started the day out really, really loose and just fought it all afternoon. Phil (Gould, crew chief) and the crew made great adjustments all day and we had fast lap times, but with the long runs we were a lap down and didn’t get the caution everyone needed to get back on the lead lap. I’m proud of the guys for their hard work all weekend and we’re going to end this season very strong.”

 

Austin Dillon Drives No. 3 AdvoCare Chevrolet to Sixth-Place Finish at Dover International Speedway

 

Richard Childress Racing’s Austin Dillon remains second in the NASCAR Nationwide Series driver championship point standings following a sixth-place finish in the Dover 200 at Dover International Speedway on Saturday afternoon, narrowing his gap in the standings to just four markers with five races remaining. Dillon started the 200-lap race from the sixth position and quickly drove into the top three, despite battling a loose-handling condition on his No. 3 AdvoCare Chevrolet in the early stages of the race. A caution-flag period on lap 35 provided the Danny Stockman-led team an opportunity to pit for four tires, fuel and adjustments, positioning Dillon in the 16th position when green-flag racing resumed on lap 40. During the ensuing run, Dillon posted some of the quickest lap times of the field. The Welcome, N.C. driver raced into the top 10 within 20 laps and ultimately raced his way into the sixth spot for the race’s finish, despite falling one lap down to the race leader on lap 186.

Kevin Harvick Collects Top-Five Finish in NASCAR Nationwide Series Race at Dover International Speedway

 

Kevin Harvick and the No. 33 Steak-EZE Chevrolet team conserved fuel through the final 160-lap green-flag run to the checkered flag and brought home a third-place finish in the 200-mile NASCAR Nationwide Series event at Dover International Speedway. Starting from the eighth position, the two-time Nationwide Series champion battled a loose-handling Chevrolet before coming to pit road under caution on lap 26 for tires, fuel and chassis adjustments. After returning to the race track, the Richard Childress Racing driver communicated to crew chief Ernie Cope that the his black and red machine was still loose and Cope made the decision for Harvick to stay out under caution on lap 37 to gain valuable track position. Restarting third, Harvick maintained a top-five running position for the remainder of the race and saved enough fuel after a green-flag pit stop by the Steak-EZE pit crew on lap 110. He was able to complete the remainder of the 200-lap event without pitting, ultimately crossing the finish line in the third position for the 158th top-five finish of his Nationwide Series career.
