Kyle Busch No. 54 NNS Chicagoland Speedway Preview

Kyle Busch will return to the seat of the No. 54 Monster Energy Camry this weekend, and tackle the 1.5-mile D-shaped, tri-oval of Chicagoland (Ill.) Speedway in Joliet, his 10th race there in the NASCAR Nationwide Series. For the spring Chicago race, Kyle Busch Motorsports (KBM) joined forces with Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR) and NASCAR Camping World Truck Series regular Joey Coulter took the wheel of the No. 54 Toyota, while Kyle Busch had an off-weekend in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. Coulter’s Illinois run was strong, where he started 15th, ran a consistent race and finished in 14th place.

Busch’s Chicagoland success includes victory in all three of NASCAR’s top divisions including two wins in the Nationwide and Camping World Truck Series as well as one win from the pole in the Sprint Cup Series. Other finishes across the three series include 11 top-five and 11 top-10 finishes and 831 laps led. Busch has yet to capture a first-place pole-starting position at the Joliet facility, but considering the team’s record so far this year, eight times leading the field to the green flag — it’s possible that statistical category will be broken this Saturday.

Crew Chief Adam Stevens is ready for the Chicago return. Stevens has led series regular Kyle Busch and team to nine wins in 25 races so far this season. With a fourth-place finish in last week’s event at Richmond (Va.) International Raceway, the JGR team and owner J.D. Gibbs continue to battle their Owner’s Championship points’ position, still in second place, now 18 points behind the No. 22 Penske Ford. This week they look to take a bite out of the lead with a successful run, no different from the 25 previous weeks executed this year.
