Nelson Piquet NNS Preview: Chicagoland Speedway

Stand Alone…The NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) will make its first of two trips of the 2013 season to Joliet, Ill. and Chicagoland Speedway this weekend for the STP 300. With the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series having an off weekend, the NNS will be in the spotlight on Sunday afternoon. Nelson Piquet Jr. will make his first career NNS start at Chicagoland this weekend, but is no stranger to success at the 1.5-mile oval, having made two starts in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series with one top five and one top 10 to his credit.

This Week’s Camaro…The No. 30 WORX team will have chassis TSM-329 for Sunday afternoon’s race at Chicagoland. TSM-329 has been used three times this year by Piquet Jr., most recently at Dover International Speedway.

New Hampshire Recap…Making his first career NNS start at New Hampshire Motor Speedway last weekend, Piquet Jr. and his No. 30 Qualcomm team looked to put down laps and get familiar with the 1.058-mile oval in the 200-lap race. Despite suffering damage in his qualifying attempt, Piquet Jr. laid down the 15th-quickest lap at the “Magnificent Mile.” However, the NNS rookie had to start at the rear of the field after his No. 30 Qualcomm team was forced to their backup car. After battling a loose wheel and undergoing an unscheduled green-flag pit stop during the middle portion of the race, Piquet Jr. and the No. 30 Qualcomm team fought back for a 12th-place finish.

Nelson Piquet Jr. on his return to Chicago:

“I am looking forward to getting back on the track and making my return to Chicagoland Speedway this weekend.  It’s going to be really cool running on Sunday afternoon and having the NASCAR spotlight on the Nationwide Series this weekend. We have had some success at this track in the Truck Series, so hopefully I can take that knowledge and apply it towards this weekend’s race.  We have WORX back on board this weekend, so hopefully we can bring home a great finish for those guys.”
