It was a freaky finish, and Landon Cassill was slammed by it.
The CNBC Prime’s “The Profit” 200 Nationwide race at New Hampshire Motor Speedway was extended 13 laps by three green-white-checkered runs, putting virtually every driver still on the track in danger of running out of fuel. Cassill was among those who lost the gamble. He ran out of gas on lap 204 and stopped on the inside of the track, causing the sixth of seven cautions.
Fortunately, Mike Wallace, Cassill’s JD Motorsports with Gary Keller teammate, was still on the track. Wallace gave Cassill a push to get him rolling again, and the No. 4 Chevrolet finished 30th.
“That’s not a fun position to be in, but everybody was trying to stretch the fuel and it looked like the race was never going to end,” Cassill said. “We were just in the unlucky group that didn’t make it.”
Cassill raced in the high 20s before running into the late-race issues.
