The tingling you’ve been feeling the past few days hopefully isn’t the flu. It’s the warming sensation fans get around this time: NASCAR fever. After weeks of yearning for the Sprint Cup Series cars to return to the track, NASCAR Preseason Thunder at Daytona kicks off today. Fans may log on to the site during the three-day NASCAR Sprint Cup Series test at Daytona International Speedway—the first engine firings of 2013 and the debut of the new sixth-generation NASCAR Sprint Cup Series cars. Teams participating in NASCAR Preseason Thunder at Daytona will use the time to prepare for the 55th Daytona 500 on Sunday, February 24.
“This test is an opportunity for the teams to prepare their cars for Speedweeks and the 55th running of the Daytona 500,” said Robin Pemberton, NASCAR vice president of competition. “This is the teams’ test and provides an excellent lead in to the upcoming 2013 season. There has been a lot of work put into the development of the Gen-6 car by the manufacturers, teams and NASCAR. It will be exciting to see the new cars on the track for Daytona Preseason Thunder.”
The test is scheduled to run each day, Thursday through Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET daily, weather permitting, with a noon-1 p.m. break each day.
