Fans Encouraged to Join ‘Pink Out’

As NASCAR Nationwide Series drivers roll off of pit road for the start of Friday’s Dollar General 300, many will be sporting pink paint schemes in an effort to raise awareness of the fight against breast cancer.

Danica Patrick, Elliott Sadler, James Buescher, Brad Sweet and others will carry pink paint schemes as part of a month-long initiative during Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Fans will also see a lot more pink in other areas of the track, including a pink start/finish line, pit crew members in pink firesuits and helmets and even a pink trophy to the Dollar General 300 winner.

In 2012, 225,000 women in the United States will be diagnosed with the disease, and one in eight women will be diagnosed in their lifetime, according to the American Cancer Society.

In an effort to further raise awareness, fans are encouraged to wear pink as part of a “Pink Out” at the track, which will also boast a pink start/finish line and nearly 300 breast cancer survivors participating in pre-race festivities.
