More Than 40 Sponsors Help Celebration 2012 Top Fundraising Goal

Organizers of Celebration 2012 announced this week that the fundraising goal to cover the costs of the annual free Independence Day event at Martinsville Speedway has been reached.

The talent and schedule of events for Celebration 2012, scheduled for Tuesday, July 3, were announced a few weeks ago, but at that time there was a shortfall in funding. Since then, according to Jeb Bassett, head of fundraising for the event, more sponsors stepped up to meet the goal. There are more than 40 sponsors for Celebration 2012, which marks the 14th consecutive year for the event.

“We have to give a big ‘thank you’ to all of our sponsors. Without their financial support, this event couldn’t continue,” said Bassett, in his fourth year of leading fundraising for Celebration. “Area businesses and organizations see the value of Celebration as a community tradition and fun for the entire family.”

“We have to thank all of the sponsors and we have to give an extra big ‘thank you’ to Jeb Bassett who works so hard to make this happen every year,” said Martinsville Speedway President Clay Campbell. “This community never ceases to amaze me … it always comes through when we need it for this event.”

For the first time, this year’s Celebration will feature three headliners: country music stars Darryl Worley and David Lee Murphy and American Idol star Bo Bice, who was runner-up to Carrie Underwood in the show’s fourth season.

The children’s rides will open at 5 p.m. and remain open until 11:30 p.m. The concert will begin at 8 p.m. followed by the fireworks. The entire event, including the rides, will be free of charge. Martinsville Speedway’s concession stands will be open with items at reduced prices.

Fan gates will also open at 5 p.m.
