Glendale, Arizona native and 12-year Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series veteran Michael McDowell hosted a fan appreciation event yesterday with nearly 100 Season Ticket Holders from his home track ISM Raceway ahead of the Bluegreen Vacations 500 on November 10. Held at Scottsdale’s Octane Raceway, the event featured a Q&A with McDowell and former NASCAR driver Casey Mears, followed by two hours of racing action where ISM Raceway fans tested their skills against NASCAR drivers on the high-speed go-kart track.
“It was a fun day interacting with a lot of fans and Season Ticket Holders, including people that have been Season Ticket Holders for 10, 15 and 20 years,” said McDowell. “It’s great to be able to come out and thank them for all their support of ISM Raceway and for me being their hometown driver to have this kind of support is awesome as well.”
Prior to the event, McDowell and ISM Raceway President Julie Giese surprised two unsuspecting Season Ticket Holders at their homes, delivering their Bluegreen Vacations 500 tickets as well as some of McDowell’s #34 team apparel so they can support their hometown driver in November.
“It was a lot of fun having Michael McDowell out here to spend some time with our Season Ticket Holders,” said Giese. “Everyone had a blast listening to him and Casey Mears share past racing stories and what it’s like being a NASCAR driver, but it was the excitement of getting behind the wheel and racing with two professional drivers that provided a really unique experience for our fans.”
McDowell will return to ISM Raceway when he takes to the track for the Bluegreen Vacations 500 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series Semi-Final race on November 10.
