Goodyear Tire Test May 8-9 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway Attracts Dale Earnhardt Jr, Carl Edwards, and more

The best way to win races is to be prepared. That’s why a number of NASCAR Sprint Cup drivers will be in New Hampshire next week, testing new tires for this season’s races at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.  Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company announced a tire test with five Sprint Cup teams May 8-9. The fans are encouraged to watch from the grandstands free of charge.

NASCAR Sprint Cup Series drivers scheduled for this test session include; nine-time Most-Popular Driver Award winner, Dale Earnhardt Jr. of the No. 88 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet; NHMS Nationwide Series winner, Carl Edwards, driver of the No. 99 Roush Fenway Racing Ford; former Sprint Cup Series Champion, Bobby Labonte of the No. 47 JTG-Daugherty Racing Toyota; Regan Smith, driver of the No. 78 Furniture Row Racing Chevrolet and Paul Menard, driver of the No. 27 Richard Childress Racing Chevrolet.

Goodyear has designated “The Magic Mile” as one of four testing sites in a six-week stretch leaving the best for last, New Hampshire Motor Speedway. Engineers will be looking to gather information that will help standardize its mile-track tire set-up with the research gained at other facilities.

“At New Hampshire, we’re looking to incorporate similar construction changes to that which we found to be successful at Phoenix,” said Greg Stucker, Goodyear’s director of race tires. “We’ve been happy with the results of that construction combination at Phoenix, and our goal is to adapt it to Loudon.”

The racing will feel real as drivers put their tires to the test.  All five drivers will be pushing their cars to the limit to ensure the Goodyear Tires are tested in real time conditions to make sure the testing provides the right results.  That means a great summertime race preview for fans, who will get a glimpse at the action to come.

“We are so excited to host a Goodyear Tire Test at New Hampshire Motor Speedway,” said Jerry Gappens, executive vice president and general manager of the speedway. “Fans will get a sneak peak of their favorite drivers before the LENOX Industrial Tools 301 and we are thrilled to be chosen as one of four tracks for the test. What a great line-up!”

Grandstands will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesday, May 8 and Wednesday, May 9. The infield will be closed during the test.
