Fans Join Kenseth at Charlotte Motor Speedway to Kick Off Race Month During One Hot Fan Night Celebration

Fans, eager to kick off race month at Charlotte Motor Speedway, lined up outside the Mecca of motorsports nearly two hours before the start of One Hot Fan Night Tuesday before pouring into the infield for a free screening of the 1992 Sprint All-Star Race, dubbed One Hot Night.

As the replay began, Steve Behrent of Charlotte, sat on the hood of his Oldsmobile, camera in hand, capturing the historic images as they flashed across the screen.

“I grew up in racing,” he said. “I don’t know a lot of history about this race, but I know a lot of the guys in it. I love the big screen. It’s really great to watch, even from the stands (during the races).”

The event, which included a fan forum with NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver Matt Kenseth, NASCAR Vice President of Competition Robin Pemberton and TV analysts Larry McReynolds and Mike Joy, served as a primer for the 10 greatest days in racing. The fun starts with NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race on May 19 and concludes with the biggest Memorial Day party in racing, the 53rd running of the Coca-Cola 600 on May 27.

Kenseth, who has won both of May’s showcase events at Charlotte Motor Speedway as well as both Nationwide Series events and the Bank of America 500, said he’s made a lot of great memories at the 1.5-mile superspeedway, and hopes to add to his trophy collection when the sport’s best drivers return this month.

“I really enjoy them both honestly. The All-Star Race is always really fun,” Kenseth said before taking part in the One Hot Fan Night fan forum. “The pit stop during the qualifying lap is unique and is really fun, I think, for the pit crew guys and for the drivers.

“Whenever you run the 600, you always think about your first win and the first win we were able to have here. It’s always fun to come out to Charlotte. It’s a great race track. It’s one that we’ve always really enjoyed and look forward to coming to.”
