Three gold record award-winning performers will headline Celebration 2012 when the Paintin’ The Town Tour rolls into Martinsville Speedway on July 3 for the annual free-to-the-public show.
The trio of all-star acts includes Darryl Worley, Bo Bice and David Lee Murphy. The three have produced dozens of top 10 hits and several number-one albums. Their live shows are a mix of country, rock-a-billy, Americana and patriotic songs that keep crowds on their feet.
It is the first time there have been three headline acts for Celebration. The three will perform separately.
“This is probably the most exciting show we’ve ever had here for Celebration. I think it’s going to be a memorable show for fans,” said Martinsville Speedway President Clay Campbell. “But without all the support we get from the community, this wouldn’t happen. We all need to thank Jeb Bassett for his hard work as the lead fund-raiser for this event.
In addition to the concert, there will be more than a dozen children’s carnival rides and the evening will culminate with the largest fireworks’ display in the area.
According to Bassett, who is in his fourth year of leading fund-raising efforts for Celebration, fundraising for the event has been very good. Sponsors are still needed, Bassett said, and any donations will be accepted.
The children’s rides will open at 5 p.m. and remain open until 11:30 p.m. The concert will begin at 8 p.m. followed by the fireworks. The entire event, including the rides, will be free of charge. Martinsville Speedway’s concession stands will be open with items at reduced prices.
Worley has been a mainstay of modern country music for a decade and has produced an impressive and wide-ranging body of work in six albums and 18 chart hits.
His biggest hit, “Have You Forgotten” was number-one for an amazing seven consecutive weeks. Other number-one hits for Worley include “I Miss My Friend” and “Awful, Beautiful Life.” He has put many songs into the top 20, including “I Just Came Back From A War,” Tennessee River Run” and “If Something Should Happen.”
Murphy’s iconic “Dust On The Bottle” and “Party Crowd” put him on the map as a performer in the mid-1990s, with both reaching number-one status, propelling his debut album, “Out With A Bang” to a million-seller.
While his onstage career blossomed, his behind-the-scenes songwriting career grew even bigger as he became one of the most-sought-after songwriters in Nashville. His songwriting credits include Kenny Chesney’s “Living In Fast Forward” and “Live A Little” as well as Jason Aldean’s “Big Green Tractor.” All three reached the top of the charts.
Bice has sold more than two million albums, but may be best remembered for his performance in Season Four of American Idol when he was runner-up to Carrie Underwood, losing by less than one percent of the final vote. Over 30 million viewers watched Underwood and Bice go head-to-head in the final episode that season.
This will be the 12th consecutive year for the Celebration event at Martinsville Speedway.
