SCC Atlanta adds a weekend of fun events to benefit children during NASCAR weekend

From clay shooting, to a big Corn Hole tournament, to a chance to drive the high banks of Atlanta Motor Speedway, the Atlanta chapter of Speedway Children’s Charities has a weekend full of activities planned during Georgia’s NASCAR weekend later this month.

The events will add more fun into the mix for race fans while also helping SCC achieve its goal to help as many children in the Atlanta area as possible. Funds raised from each event will become grants for local organizations that champion children’s causes.

“Race weekend in Atlanta is always a good time, and this is a wonderful opportunity for people to join us and have more fun while helping a good cause at the same time,” said SCC Atlanta Director Missy Johnson.

The festivities begin Thursday, February 21, with the NRA Foundation’s David Ragan Clay Shoot. Held just a few minutes south of the Speedway at Cherokee Rose Sporting Resort in Griffin, the event begins with registration at 9:30 a.m., followed by course shooting at 11 a.m. To top it off, lunch from Shane’s Rib Shack will be served to participants.

At 7 p.m. on Saturday, February 23, the Speedway’s Fan Zone will host a big Corn Hole Championship. Thanks to the generous support of Bill Roberts Electrical, this double-elimination tournament will feature some $1,500 in prizes up for grabs, including $800 for first place.

After the weekend’s racing concludes, SCC will host Hot Laps on the Track on Monday, February 25. This event is the perfect opportunity for a racing fan to take their car around the famous 1.54-mile oval, or hop into the Atlanta Motor Speedway pace car for a ride. Hot Laps on the Track will be held from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

All of these events are in addition to SCC Atlanta’s efforts during race weekend to raise awareness and funding for children’s causes, including 50/50 raffles during Saturday and Sunday’s races and the Red Bucket Brigade on Sunday.
