Allgaier, Clements Speak at Darlington Area Schools

NASCAR Nationwide Series drivers Justin Allgaier and Jeremy Clements paid a visit to four Darlington County schools on Tuesday to help promote the upcoming VFW Sport Clips Help a Hero 200, scheduled for Friday, May 11 at Darlington Raceway.

Allgaier, driver of the No. 31 BRANDT Chevrolet, and Clements, a native of Spartanburg, S.C. and driver of the No. 51 Clements Race Engines Chevrolet, visited the Darlington County Institute of Technology (DCIT), Mayo High School in Darlington, W. Hartsville Elementary and Hartsville Middle School.

The two spoke with students about racing, including the value of education and what it means in the sport of NASCAR. Cory Donely, engineer for the No. 31 team, also joined the drivers, discussing the importance of math and science in his engineering position with Turner Motorsports.

“We were glad to come in today and promote the upcoming NASCAR Nationwide Series race to kids and students in the Darlington area,” Allgaier said. “Youth are important to the overall growth of our sport and it was fun to see all the questions they had for us. I look forward to seeing all of them watch us race in the VFW Sport Clips Help a Hero 200 on May 11 at Darlington Raceway, which is one of my favorite tracks on the circuit every year.”

The students at each school also received a visit by the No. 31 BRANDT Chevrolet showcar, which the driver’s were glad to show off at the events.

Kids 17 and under are free in general admission to the VFW Sport Clips Help a Hero 200 on May 11 at Darlington.

“I hope we see a lot of these young faces at Darlington in a few weeks,” Clements said. “It was great to educate them on our sport and we’ll hopefully put on a really good show for them at Darlington Raceway on May 11. It sends a great message when a track like Darlington offers a free ticket to kids 17 and under because it’s so important that we get the younger fans involved in NASCAR. They are what is going to make this sport grow in the future.”
