The following is a statement from Speedway Motorsports, Inc. President and CEO Marcus Smith on the passing of NASCAR Hall of Fame inductee David Pearson:
“David Pearson was a true legend in every sense of the word. In addition to his three championships, he’ll forever have a special place in our hearts with his connection to Charlotte Motor Speedway. He captured his first of 105 wins in the 1961 Coca-Cola 600. And while he won three more races here, he may best be remembered for his incredible string of 11 straight poles at Charlotte from 1973-’78. That’s an accomplishment that will never be matched again. ‘The Silver Fox’ was a leader on and off the track. He’ll be greatly missed, and his legacy will never be forgotten as one of the all-time great NASCAR drivers.”
