Talladega Superspeedway Plays Host to The Alabama Military Academy with Traditional Six-Mile March

Talladega Superspeedway is no stranger to honoring the brave men and women of our military. Tuesday, the Alabama Military Academy conducted their semi-annual six-mile foot march at the mammoth 2.66-mile NASCAR venue as part of the accelerated Officer Candidate School (OCS) course for the Army National Guard.

The tradition of this unique OCS march has been conducted since 2006 by the nearby Alabama Military Academy, located in Anniston, Al, which has seen more than 4,400 new Second Lieutenants from all 50 states and four territories graduate from this program.

“Our Military creates the ability for us to enjoy events like the upcoming Alabama 500 (Oct. 13-15) at Talladega Superspeedway,” said Track Chairman Grant Lynch. “These soldiers make the ultimate sacrifice for us, so we are honored that they include our venue to conduct unique training elements like the Six-Mile March.”

Talladega Superspeedway has always payed immense respect to the men and women of our Armed-Forces and implemented specific opportunities at the historic tri-oval to honor their sacrifice. One of the many continued traditions at Talladega Superspeedway is the presentation of the one-of-a-kind “Freedom Trophy” that is awarded to each Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series winner by a member of one of the five military branches. In addition, military members are recognized in pre-race ceremonies, including the new custom of the 313th Army Band’s performance of the National Anthem, presentation of colors, a variety of Military fly-overs, and not to mention the iconic drive-by of Johnny Ray and his All-American semi-truck sporting a giant United States of America Flag to kick off Talladega’s exciting races.

NASCAR’s Most Competitive track works closely with numerous military bases throughout the southeast to bring members of the military to NASCAR’s biggest and baddest track. In addition to the Six-Mile March, the track is proud to offer excellent savings of up to 60% on ticket prices for all members of the Armed Forces and their families. Tickets go on-sale this Friday, June 23rd for the upcoming “Wild Card” playoff weekend Oct. 13-15 that features not only the Alabama 500 NASCAR playoff race, but also the fred’s 250 Powered by Coca-Cola – another play off event for the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series.
