Revisiting Last Year’s Closest Indycar Finish in TMS History

As Saturday night’s Rainguard Water Sealers 600 Verizon IndyCar Series race approaches, Texas Motor Speedway takes a look back at the final laps of last year’s dramatic finish through electrifying visor-cam video from winner Graham Rahal of Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing.

Rahal’s visor cam showcases the incredibly close racing and daring passes in those final laps that culminated with his final-lap pass to edge James Hinchcliffe by 0.0800 of a second in the weather-delayed event that was completed Aug. 27, 2016.

It was the closest finish of any major series on Texas Motor Speedway’s 1.5-mile oval and fifth closest in Indy-car history. The previous record was 0.0096 of a second when Sam Hornish Jr. nipped Helio Castroneves in the Chevy 500k on Sept. 15, 2002.

The Rainguard Water Sealers 600 (248 laps, 372 miles) will begin at 7:30 p.m. CT Saturday and be televised live on the NBC Sports Network. The race also will be broadcast live on IMS Radio Network, Sirius XM Radio Channel 214 and locally on 95.9 The Ranch.
