Richard Petty to Celebrate his 80th Birthday at Chicagoland Speedway

Chicagoland Speedway will offer an exclusive Richard Petty ticket offer to celebrate “The King’s” 80th birthday for the September 17 race, the kick-off race to the NASCAR Monster Energy Cup Series playoffs. For $85, fans will receive one grandstand ticket, one infield fan zone pass and take part in a Q&A session with “The King”. In addition, $5 of the proceeds for each ticket will benefit the Petty Family Foundation and Victory Junction.

Petty, whose birthday is July 2, will celebrate with a variety of events across the 2017 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series season. At Chicagoland Speedway, fans will kick off the event by singing a grandstand-wide Happy Birthday to Petty, the Hall of Fame driver and owner. In addition, fans will be encouraged to stand and give a round of applause on Lap 43 and then again on Lap 80.

“A legend like Richard is more than deserving of a yearlong birthday celebration – it’s only fitting for ‘The King’,” said Chicagoland Speedway track President Scott Paddock. “Following his illustrious career, Petty has continued to support the sport he loves and gives back to the racing community his heart and soul. Now, it’s time we give back to the King and celebrate this special year.”

Known for winning NASCAR’s premier series championship seven times along with a record 200 wins, Petty was inducted to Chicagoland Speedway’s Legends Club in 2016.

The Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series race at Chicagoland Speedway will take place on Sept. 17 as part of the four-race weekend Sept. 14-17. The weekend will kick off on Thursday, Sept. 14 with the ARCA Racing Series followed by NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, under the lights on Friday night. On Saturday, Sept. 16, the NASCAR XFINITY Series will hit the track as the precursor to Sunday’s Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series showdown, the first race in the NASCAR Cup Series playoffs.
