Rain Washes Out South Boston Action

Persistent rain showers and the likelihood of rain continuing to spill across the region through Sunday have forced South Boston Speedway officials to cancel tonight’s NASCAR Whelen Late Model 100 racing program.

Racing action will return to the .4-mile oval on Saturday night, May 6, with the first of the track’s 2017 season special events, an event featuring the touring NASCAR K&N Pro Series East circuit.

The NASCAR K&N Pro Series East will return to South Boston Speedway after a five-year absence on Saturday night, May 6 with the Drive Smart Virginia NASCAR K&N Twin 100’s racing program.

For the first time in the history of the K&N Pro Series East, the race format at South Boston Speedway will feature twin 100-lap races, each one a championship points-paying race, a unique first-time format for the NASCAR touring series that will bring double the excitement for race fans.

In addition, the night’s four-race card will include a 20-lap race for South Boston Speedway’s Budweiser Hornets Division and a 25-lap race for the regional touring Southern Ground Pounders.

Practice for the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East competitors will run from 2 p.m. until 3:30 p.m., with NASCAR K&N Pro Series East qualifying starting at 3:30 p.m. Grandstand gates open at 4:30 p.m., with practice for the Hornets and Southern Ground Pounders going from 4:40 p.m. to 5 p.m.

An autograph session for all drivers will be held trackside from 5:40 p.m. until 6:40 p.m. Pre-race activities start at 6:45 p.m. and the first of twin 100-lap races for the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East competitors will get the green flag at 7 p.m.

Advance adult general admission tickets priced at $10 will be available at the South Boston Speedway office until 5 p.m. on Friday, May 5. Adult general admission tickets on race day will be $15. Admission for youth ages 7-12 will be $5. Kids ages six and under will be admitted free with a paying adult.
