Kingsport Speedway Looking to Get First Friday Night Race of 2017 Underway

Kingsport Speedway is ready to roar back to life this Friday night with a full schedule of racing action.

With weather preventing racing from occurring the past two weeks, fans and race teams alike are ready to see the green flag back in the air this Friday, April 14.

This Friday’s race features twin 35-lap races in the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Late Model Stock Car division. Modified Street, Pure 4, Mod 4 and Pure Street divisions are also on tap for the night of intense short track racing.

“We’re so excited to get back underway,” said Karen Tunnell, Kingsport Speedway general manager. “The weather is finally looking great for a full night of racing under the lights.”

With the month of April being National Autism Awareness Month, this Friday’s race will show support of autism awareness. Everyone in attendance is invited to wear blue.

The Autism Society of East Tennessee will also be in attendance to provide information about their new Johnson City, Tennessee-based Autism Community Center. Based in Knoxville, Tennessee, the Autism Society of East Tennessee partnered with the City of Johnson City to create the community center as an Autism resource in the Tri-Cities.

“While we’re just as excited for racing, we’re also excited to show support to the new Autism Community Center,” added Tunnell. “It’s always great to try to help the community.”

Pit gates open at 2 p.m. on Friday, grandstands open at 5:30 p.m., qualifying is set for 7 p.m. and racing gets underway at 8 p.m.

Adult admission is $10 and children 12-and-under are admitted free. Tier parking along Turns 3 and 4 is available for $10 per vehicle plus admission.

The Kingsport Speedway Little Racers Club will be open from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Speedway office on A-Side with fun Easter activities.
