Actor Rockmond Dunbar to Serve as Grand Marshal for STP 500

Actor Rockmond Dunbar, the star of the Hulu series “The Path” and of the Fox series “Prison Break”, will serve as the Grand Marshal and say the most famous words in racing, “Drivers, start your engines,” for Sunday’s STP 500 at Martinsville Speedway.

“Having Rockmond serve as our Grand Marshal is awesome,” Martinsville Speedway President Clay Campbell said. “Personally, I am a big fan of Prison Break, so I’m excited, and if you look at everything he’s been in, I think our fans are going to be excited too.”

For Dunbar, the excitement surrounds not only giving the command, but being able to visit one of NASCAR’s most historic tracks.

“I’m really excited to be able to not only say the most famous words in racing, but to be able to do it at one of NASCAR’s most historic tracks, Martinsville Speedway. Not only am I excited to say ‘Drivers Start Your Engines,’ I’m also excited to be able to watch one of the most exciting races on the schedule, in person.”

In addition to “The Path” and “Prison Break,” Dunbar can next be seen in Brad Furman’s crime thriller, LABYRINTH, opposite Johnny Depp.

Racing returns to Martinsville Speedway this weekend.

This year the historic track celebrates its 70th anniversary.

The weekend starts on Friday with Virginia Lottery Pole Day and continues on Saturday with the Alpha Energy Solutions 250 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Race.

The Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series will be in action on Sunday with the running of the STP 500.

Ticket prices start at $55 and tickets in the Bill France Tower are $60.

The race is the first short-track race of the season and marks the series’ return to the east coast after NASCAR Goes West.

Last year Kyle Busch became the first driver in the tracks storied history to win both the Truck and Premier Series races in the same weekend.

Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased by calling 877.RACE.TIX or online at www.martinsvillespeedway.com.
