Weezer to Headline iHeart Media Richmond’s XL102 BFD at The Classic Amphitheater

Richmond International Raceway, AEG Live, and iHeart Media Richmond’s XL102 announce the godfather’s of alternative rock, Weezer, will headline the region’s biggest musical festival, BFD. The alternative music focused festival moves to The Classic Amphitheater at the Richmond Raceway Complex on Saturday, May 13 at 6:30 p.m.

BFD is a regional music festival that brings the best in alternative rock to Richmond. In addition to Weezer, BFD performers include PVRIS, Bob Moses, Dreamers and making their Richmond debut, Skratch ‘N Sniff. Music fans are invited to spend the evening at the Richmond Raceway Complex to enjoy great food, beverages, and music.

“We welcome iHeart Media Richmond’s XL102 and BFD to The Classic Amphitheater for our 25th Anniversary Celebration,” said Richmond’s President Dennis Bickmeier. “As part of our partnership with AEG Live, Weezer will take the stage to add their band to the legendary list of names who have performed at The Classic Amphitheater.”

Weezer is an iconic American rock band formed in Los Angeles, Calif. in 1992. The band consists of Rivers Cuomo (lead vocals, lead guitar), Patrick Wilson (drums), Brian Bell (rhythm guitar, backing vocals, keyboards), and Scott Shriner (bass, backing vocals). Weezer has sold over 9.2 million albums in the U.S., and over 17 million records worldwide.  

Their catalogue includes such megahits as “Buddy Holly,” “Undone (The Sweater Song),” “Say It Ain’t So,” “El Scorcho,” “Hash Pipe,” “Island In The Sun,” “Beverly Hills,” “Pork and Beans,” and more. Weezer has won Grammys, MTV Video Music Awards, and more throughout their career.

In 2016, Weezer released their tenth studio album, Weezer (The White Album), a self-proclaimed beach album that debuted at #1 on Billboard’s Rock/Alternative chart, and top 5 on the Billboard 200 chart. The band then embarked on a massive, two-month summer tour playing to half a million people across the U.S.

“The announcement of XL102’s BFD with Weezer is just one of the many great shows that will grace The Classic Amphitheater stage this summer season,” said Bill Reid, Senior Vice President, AEG Live Mid-Atlantic.

This year marks the 25th Anniversary of The Classic Amphitheater. The partnership with AEG Live continues the rich history of concerts at The Classic Amphitheater. With acts like Aerosmith, Hank Williams, Jr., and Bob Dylan all performing over the years, The Classic Amphitheater has and continues to host some of the best in the music industry. The first act announced for this season at The Classic Amphitheater was Elvis Costello & The Imposters.

NASCAR racing returns to the Capital of the Commonwealth on April 28, 29 and 30 for Toyota’s spring race weekend. The action starts with Pole Day on April 28, followed by the ToyotaCare 250 NASCAR XFINITY Series Dash4Cash race on Saturday, April 29 at 1 p.m. Kids 12 and younger are free in general admission seating areas for the ToyotaCare 250. Richmond’s fall race weekend, presented by Who’s Your Driver, will crown the inaugural Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series regular season champion over Fan Appreciation Weekend on September 8-9. Witness history in the Federated Auto Parts 400 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series race on Saturday, September 9 as a regular season champion will be crowned. On Friday, September 8, the rising stars of tomorrow will compete in the Virginia529 College Savings 250 NASCAR XFINITY Series race.
