Chevy Set to Look Pretty in Pink at Talladega Superspeedway to Benefit The American Cancer Society

Fans coming to Talladega Superspeedway for the much anticipated Alabama 500 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race on Sunday, Oct. 23, should be pleasantly surprised by the amount of pink visible at the track, especially the sharp pink Chevrolet SS pace car that will raise money for the American Cancer Society in its mission to save lives from breast cancer.

While pink is not a color often found in the garage or on the 33-degree banking of NASCAR’s Most Competitive track, the pink Chevrolet SS pace car will lead the field to the green flag in the Alabama 500, the elimination race in the Round of 12 in the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup where the field of competitors vying for the title will be trimmed from 12 to eight at the checkered flag. During every lap run under caution during the event, Chevrolet will contribute $350 to the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Campaign. That means the spiffy Chevy SS pace car leads the field on those laps, further raising awareness for an important fight.

“We are extremely happy to be working again this year to raise awareness for breast cancer during our fall event weekend,” said Talladega Superspeedway Chairman Grant Lynch. “The American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer program is a great way for everybody to get involved to free the world of breast cancer, and it has become a tradition here to see the pink Chevrolet pace car leading the field.”

On Saturday morning, Oct. 22, Chevrolet will host 25 breast cancer survivors prior to the start of the fred’s 250 Powered by Coca-Cola NASCAR Camping World Truck Series. The group will be treated to a NASCAR experience complete with pink souvenir bags and hot laps around the 2.66-mile track in the pink Chevy SS pace car with scheduled drivers Kevin Harvick and Jamie McMurray, both former winners at Talladega. Afterward, they will watch the exciting fred’s 250 Powered by Coca-Cola event, the third and final race in the Round of 8 in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Chase in which the field of title contenders will be reduced from eight to six at the race’s conclusion.

The weekend is part of an ongoing initiative for Chevrolet, which since 2011, has partnered together with Dealers, GM Employees and the United Auto Workers to raise more than $6 million for the campaign through many national and grassroots activities.
