Lebanon I-44 Speedway 2016 Awards Banquet

Missouri’s only active and Nascar Sanction track, The “High-Banks” of The Lebanon I-44 Speedway will be honoring the top drivers from the very competitive 2016 season at The Lebanon Cowan Civic Center on Saturday October 29th.

Former Lebanon resident Brian Brown will be crowned as The O’Reilly Auto Parts Pro Late Model Champion breaking the streak of Young Guns for the last 3 seasons. Brown, who took the Ozarks Coca-Cola Missouri State Street Stock Title in 1996 captured 3 Late Model feature wins this season as 9 different drivers took home a feature win while finishing with 16 top 5’s out of 18 feature events in 2016. For Brown, it is his first Late Model Title in his long career in competing on the Asphalt. Brown will also be representing Missouri as The 4th different Missouri State Champion in Charlotte, NC later this year out of 4 Nascar Whelen Seasons. Also representing Missouri will be Mandy Chick as Rookie of the Year. Mandy finished 9th in The State Standing while finishing 6th in the Track standings. The 14 year old Lady from Desoto, KS. had 4 top 5’s out of 17 features this season.

Springfield’s Tim Swearengin was successful in defending his 2015 Ground-Pounding Modified by going back to back and placed himself in the I-44 Record Books with his 5th Track Championship placing himself along with Dirt Track Hall Of Famer. Ken Essary and Larry Phillips. Swearengin grabbed 9 feature events in 2016 in the very tough Modified division out of 18 features. Swearengin captured Pro Late Model Titles in 2000-2002.

Hoosier Tire Street Stock competition saw a Rookie grab the title as 3rd Generation driver Justin Allen of Urbana held back defending Champion Jordan Nisbett in taking his 1st ever title. The son of Former Modified Ace Scotty Allen and Grandson of Bill Allen and Modified Standout Rex Merritt took home 5 feature wins in 2016 out of 19 starts. Allen also captured the 2 longer distance extra money features this season and was being tabbed as the master of the distance events pulling off dramatic wins and late race charges while competing in his 1st full season of Asphalt Racing.

Coca-Cola Charger Rookie Ronnie Taylor of Springfield shot his way to the 2016 season title holding back several attempts by Jerry Ellis. Taylor raced his way from the back of the field each week to grab 7 wins out of 19 features and had 18 top 5’s along the way as 8 different drivers took home a feature win in the Entry Level 4 Cylinder class. The Class had 6 drivers ranked in the top 100 in the division 5 NASCAR Level with over 60 tracks sanctioned by NASCAR.

Jimmy Fohn of Eldridge, a 2nd generation driver took the Sportsman class honors for 2016.

The Doors for The Banquet will open at 6PM with Activities starting at 7PM. Drivers who competed in at least 4 events are admitted Free and all others cost will be $14.00. Dickey’s BBQ of Lebanon will be catering the event with a Buffet Style Dinner. No Alcohol will be served. The Public is invited to this fun-filled evening as we honor our Top drivers for the 2016 season
