Route 66 NHRA Nationals to Display Richard Petty 43 JR Historic Baracuda

On Saturday, July 9 at 12:30 p.m. Route 66 Raceway will celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Funny Car by unveiling an impressive display of historic vehicles. Various vintage Funny Cars from across the country, along with the famed Richard Petty 43 JR, one of the predecessors to the modern day Funny Car, will converge at the World’s Premier Drag Racing Facility giving fans an elite look at the evolution of this distinctive racing class.

“We are honored to pay tribute to Richard Petty’s success in the NHRA at this weekend’s K&N Filters Route 66 NHRA Nationals,” said Scott Paddock, President of Route 66 Raceway. “Petty’s success in both NHRA and NASCAR exemplifies his motorsports prowess, and as we celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Funny Car, Petty’s legacy will be front and center for our fans to enjoy.”

To accompany the vehicles, a legendary Funny Car driver autograph session will be open to all attendees at 1:45 p.m. Saturday. Legendary personalities such as Don “The Snake” Prudhomme, Tom “The Mongoose” McEwen, Greg Mosely, Pat Minick, Gary Dyer and Arnie Beswick will take part in the action-packed weekend. Stars of today such as John Force, Ron Capps and Alexis DeJoria will sit next to the generation of racers that paved the way for their success and participate in the autograph session as well.

The NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series returns to light up Joliet on July 7-10 at Route 66 Raceway. Various drag racing stars – both young and seasoned – will assemble for two explosive nights and two full days of high-speed action with dragsters rocketing to speeds far surpassing 300 miles per hour. Fans will be able to see who has the best speeds under the sun and under the stars.
