NASCAR XFINITY Series, Pocono Raceway set to take over Philadelphia

Pocono Raceway and Comcast, in conjunction with NASCAR, will take over Philadelphia with a day full of events that include a lap and pit stop near City Hall on Tuesday, May 17.

Pocono Raceway is hosting its first NASCAR XFINITY Series race on Saturday, June 4 and it has partnered with series sponsor Comcast and four different NASCAR racing teams to raise awareness.

NASCAR Sprint Cup Series and NASCAR XFINITY Series drivers will participate in a host of events, including the Phillies game against the Miami Marlins that evening.

Eight events are scheduled for Tuesday and will feature five drivers from three NASCAR race teams.

The showcase event will be a lap around City Hall around 12 p.m. on Tuesday. Ty Dillon will be behind the wheel of the Richard Childress Racing No. 3 Rheem Chevrolet Camaro. Dillon will be joined in the parade lap by the Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s No. 88 Axalta Racing Chevrolet SS, the Pocono Raceway Chevrolet Camaro Pace Car and support vehicles.

A Richard Childress Racing pit crew will perform a pit stop at the southeast corner of Penn Square at approximately 12:10 p.m.

Dillon, his RCR teammate Brandon Jones, driver of the No. 33 Chevrolet Camaro and Pocono Raceway President & CEO Brandon Igdalsky will participate in media interviews on Tuesday morning to start the day.

At 10 a.m., the drivers will gather at Comcast Center on John F. Kennedy Boulevard to meet fans and conduct interviews.

Meanwhile, Brennan Poole, driver of the No. 48 DC Solar Chevrolet Camaro will be at the Franklin Institute at 10 a.m., along with Ryan Reed, driver of the No. 16 Lilly Diabetes Roush Fenway Racing Ford Mustang.

Darrell “Bubba” Wallace Jr., driver of the No. 6 Ford EcoBoost Roush Fenway Facing Ford Fusion and Reed will be at Comcast Center prior to the parade lap.

Poole will continue to another Philadelphia landmark, trying to decide between Pat’s King of Steaks or Geno’s Steaks cheesesteaks and learning the proper way to order them.

Following his lunch, Poole will speak to students at a Philadelphia technical school.

Beginning at 5:30 p.m., Wallace Jr., Poole and Reed will be at XFINITY Live! to meet fans and sign autographs. Wallace Jr. and Reed will then cross the street for the Phillies game.

Pocono Raceway will host seven national motorsports events during the 2016 racing season, including a NASCAR XFINITY Series race for the inaugural time on June 4. The Axalta “We Paint Winners” 400 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) race is set for June 5, the Pennsylvania 400 NSCS race on July 31 and the ABC Supply 500 Verizon IndyCar Series race on August 21. The Pocono Mountains 150 NASCAR Camping World Truck race is scheduled for July 30 and two ARCA Series Presented by Menards races with General Tire #AnywhereIsPossible 200 on June 3 and the ModSpace 150 on July 29 offered as well.
