Surprise Presentation: Erik Jones to visit W.B. Simpson Elementary School in student-designed pace car as part of Monster Mile Youth Nation Design Challenge

Erik Jones, the 2015 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series champion, will visit W.B. Simpson Elementary School in Wyoming, Del., on Wednesday, April 27 to surprise a fifth-grade student with the announcement of the inaugural Monster Mile Youth Nation Design Challenge winner.

Jones, who drives the No. 20 Toyota for Joe Gibbs Racing while competing full-time in the NASCAR XFINITY Series, will be one of the stars racing in the NASCAR XFINITY Series Dash 4 Cash race at Dover International Speedway on Saturday, May 14 as part of the upcoming NASCAR tripleheader weekend at the Monster Mile. Jones earned his third career NASCAR XFINITY Series victory on Saturday, April 16 at Bristol, in the first Dash 4 Cash race of the season. Jones, 19, is a championship contender in the NASCAR XFINITY Series, the series where names are made.

The Monster Mile Youth Nation Design Challenge saw Delaware fifth-graders submit colorful and creative designs for Dover International Speedway’s official pace car during national “Youth Art Month” in March. More than 500 students representing 11 schools from all three Delaware counties participated.

The winner, a fifth-grader at W.B. Simpson Elementary in the Caesar Rodney School District, will receive a VIP experience at the Saturday, May 14 NASCAR XFINITY Series Dash 4 Cash race, including the opportunity to be on stage for pre-race activities.

The schedule for the Wednesday, April 27 event is below. Times are approximate.

1:30 p.m. Erik Jones and pace car arrive at W.B. Simpson Elementary School (5 Old North Rd., Wyoming, DE 19934). School’s fifth-graders will be outside waiting as car arrives (weather permitting).

1:45 p.m. Jones and winning student interviewed and photographed in front of pace car.

2 p.m.  Jones attends assembly inside school with fourth- and fifth-graders. Video of Jones’ career accomplishments shown and Jones participates in Q&A session with students.
