Davis vs Davis, Family Feud Saturday Night at MIS

There are few family feuds as celebrated as the Hatfields and McCoys but when it comes to who is the best race car driver in the Davis clan, well you don’t want to be between them when it starts.
In the history of Mobile International Speedway there have been several families that through generations of racers have become synonymous with racing at MIS, Gale, Mason, Langham and the Davis family.
Mark Davis (Dad) started his career on dirt and moved to Mobile International Speedway continuing his winning ways. As happens in racing families, Mark’s son Steven had worked on his Dads cars and by the time he was ready to drive he was ready to race.
Steven actually destroyed a brand new race with in his first appearance at the Speedway. Although, the shaky start wouldn’t be indicative of his future success.
Raw talent would soon become refined and Steven has gone on to win just about every Series Championship in every class of car at the Speedway. All of Steven’s success has come under the watchful eye and with the racing knowledge his Dad has been able to give him. Which brings us full circle to Saturday nights Family Fued, Davis vs Davis.
“I’m just tired of listening to Steven and Randy (Armstrong) talking about how good they are. Fact is they got beat by a girl in Pensacola last time out,” said Mark Davis (Dad). “Don’t get me wrong Steven is good but he only knows what I taught him and I didn’t teach him everything.”
To prove that old guys stick together Howard Langham has loaned the elder Davis a truck for this weekend. “He may get by one of us but he won’t get by Me, Howard, Okie (Mason) and Jessie (Reid).”
All four drivers date back to the Nineties and the heyday of Mobile International Speedway. “Back then the boards (stands) were full every week. These young guys don’t know how to put on a show. We are going to give Junior and those others a lesson Saturday night, we’ll put on a show for the fans.”
When asked for comment on this story from the younger Davis, Steven sputtered a few times like an old lawnmower and said “he would do his talking on the racetrack.”
Not only will the younger Davis have to compete with all the old guys, he’ll have another Joker to deal with in the Jokers Wild.
One way or the other Sunday dinner at the Davis house is going to be interesting. One Davis will be feasting while the other has his heaping share of humble pie.
If you have your Friday night ticket from March 11th, Friday armband or Weekend Armband they will be good for Saturday April 16th.
