Race Fans Get Full Relieft from Ongoing Road Construction

Race fans preparing to attend this weekend’s Duck Commander 500 NASCAR doubleheader at Texas Motor Speedway will get complete relief from the ongoing road construction around the world-renowned motorsports facility and as far south as the I-35W and I-820 loop.
 
Texas Motor Speedway officials had a joint meeting with the Texas Department of Transportation, Denton County Commissioner Andy Eads and Mario Sinacola Companies and the group universally agreed to halt all road construction activities and provide efficient ingress and egress for the three-day NASCAR event at Texas Motor Speedway in north Fort Worth.
 
On-track activity opens Thursday with late afternoon practices in both the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series and XFINITY Series. On Friday, the speedway will play host to SportsDay Qualifying Day powered by The Dallas Morning News for both series in the afternoon and that will be followed by the O’Reilly Auto Parts 300 XFINITY Series race beginning at 7:30 p.m. CT. The weekend culminates Saturday evening with the Duck Commander 500 Sprint Cup Series race beginning at 6:30 p.m.
 
All construction at the intersection of I-35W and Texas State Highway 114 already has stopped and will remain in that capacity through Sunday. All lanes eastbound and westbound on 114 will be open for traffic. Also, the on-ramp southbound on I-35W adjacent to Mark Martin Blvd. on speedway property near the marquee and the Texas turnaround at I-35W and 114 will be open for traffic as well.
 
At the I-35W and I-820 interchange, there will be no main lane closures beginning at Noon CT Friday until Tuesday morning. There will be no construction activity near the main lanes, allowing for two lanes to be open northbound and southbound. All the connectors also will be open with full lanes.
 
“It takes everyone involved, TxDOT, our contractor Mario Sinacola & Sons, the county of Denton and our local law enforcement all come together to partner with Texas Motor Speedway on these weekends to keep traffic flowing so it is a safe and welcome weekend for everyone,” TxDOT Dallas District Public Information Officer Michelle Releford said.
 
The same plan is scheduled to also be in place for the Firestone 600 INDYCAR/NASCAR doubleheader June 9-11 at Texas Motor Speedway and construction is expected to be completed in October prior to the AAA Texas 500 NASCAR tripleheader from Nov. 1-4. If construction hits any delays, speedway officials have received assurances a similar plan would be in place like the other major race weekends.
