Chicagoland Speedway Celebrates 15th Anniversary Season

With Daytona Rising’s Grand Opening and unveil taking place this past weekend, NASCAR’s racing season is officially underway and with it, Chicagoland Speedway’s fifteenth anniversary season.

Chase Elliott, 2014 Chicagoland Speedway NASCAR XFINITY Series race winner, won the pole position for Sunday’s Daytona 500 becoming the youngest pole winner in the history of the race. Toyota driver and 2013 Chicagoland Speedway Sprint Cup Series winner, Matt Kenseth, qualified second securing his position next to Elliott on the front row. Whoever takes the checkered flag on Sunday will punch their ticket to the start of Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup at Chicagoland Speedway.

“The NASCAR season got off to a great start this weekend at the Grand Opening of Daytona Rising,” said Scott Paddock, Chicagoland Speedway President. “We look forward to carrying that momentum forward throughout the season as we celebrate our 15th Anniversary leading up to the kick-off to The Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup at Chicagoland Speedway.”

2016 marks the 15th Anniversary season of the mile and a half oval in Joliet, Ill. Chicagoland Speedway is  gearing up to celebrate its milestone year with several upcoming announcements that will be sure to excite fans both new and long-time guests of the Speedway. To start, Chicagoland Speedway announced today that on the 15th of each month, a special announcement will be made. Today, Chicagoland Speedway unveiled a 15th Anniversary logo and kicked-off a promotion available to all NASCAR fans for chances to win special 15th Anniversary merchandise and cannot-buy experiences such as waving the green flag for qualifying, pace car rides and more. Chicagoland Speedway will host the kick-off race of the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup for the 6th consecutive year this September and it will be an bigger event with a first-ever four-day race weekend and the 15th Anniversary celebration. Chicago will once again be at the forefront of NASCAR’s playoff as the entire “Chase Week” line up of activities in and around the area continue to grow year after year. 

Guests can expect a dynamic, full weekend experience as Chicagoland Speedway hosts NASCAR XFINITY Series and NASCAR Camping World Truck Series drivers’ last-chance race before the new playoff format begins in each series. Following the success of the elimination format of The Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup playoffs, NASCAR announced in January that a similar system will be implemented in both series.

The Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup weekend at Chicagoland Speedway, Sept. 15-18, will begin on Thursday, Sept. 15 with the ARCA Racing Series followed by American Ethanol E15 225 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series under the lights on Friday night. On Saturday, Sept. 17, the NASCAR XFINITY Series will hit the track as the precursor to Sunday’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series showdown, the first race in the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup.
