Former Dallas Mavericks marketing executive Paul Monroe joins TMS

Texas Motor Speedway announced today that Paul Monroe, a former vice president of marketing and communications for the Dallas Mavericks of the NBA, has joined the speedway’s executive team as its director of marketing.

Monroe arrives at Texas Motor Speedway with two decades of marketing experience, including a combined 17 years between the Mavericks and Feld Entertainment, Inc., the world’s largest producer of live family entertainment that includes the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus and Disney On Ice.

In his new role at Texas Motor Speedway, Monroe’s responsibilities will include all marketing aspects, creative for campaigns, social media and race week content and presentation of “Big Hoss,” the world’s largest HD TV screen, for the world-class motorsports venue.

“I am honored to join the Texas Motor Speedway team and look forward to applying my marketing experience to provide outstanding race day experiences and other live entertainment events to fans and ticket holders throughout the year,” Monroe said.

Monroe spent nine seasons with the Dallas Mavericks (2005-14), including his final seven as the vice president of marketing and communications. He was responsible for all of the marketing, advertising, game presentation, community and public relations for the organization. His tenure was highlighted by the Mavericks’ 2011 championship-winning season; Dallas being the host market for the 2010 NBA All-Star Game that drew a record crowd; and contributing to the team’s NBA and professional sports record for consecutive sellouts.

He joined the Mavericks in 2005 after eight years at Feld Entertainment, Inc., where he served as the company’s regional marketing and sales director. He was responsible for all marketing campaigns and sales activity in the Southwest for the productions of the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus and Disney On Ice.

Most recently, he served as Vice President of Marketing for the Janimation Production Studio in Dallas as well as an Adjunct Professor at Southern Methodist University following his tenure with the Mavericks.

“We engaged a national search firm and considered candidates around the country, but we found someone right here whose expertise synced up perfectly to our needs,” Texas Motor Speedway President Eddie Gossage said. “The Dallas Mavericks forge the same cutting-edge, industry-leading, hard-edged image like Texas Motor Speedway. His experience working for Feld Entertainment’s Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus gave Paul an opportunity to learn from outstanding promoters. He will force all of us to pick up our game while we continue to lead the pack in American motorsports.”

Monroe, born in Memphis, Tenn. and raised in Punta Gorda, Fla., earned a bachelor’s degree in finance from Florida State University and a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Texas at Dallas. He and his wife, Cheryl, reside in Plano with their two children, Matthew and Evan.
